The logs show the Ethernet is working correctly and has low ping times:

Ethernet at 10Mbit is slow and will probably be slower than your broadband connection. What speed are you seeing? I would not expect to see more than 1MB/sec on a file transfer.

That is one part of the problem. The dock is connected to a 100mbit switch, other laptops using the exact same port on the switch with exact same cable run at 100mbit.

The other problem is that with the dock connected file transfers over the internal Surface Pro wifi adapter is significantly slower than when it is unconnected.

Do you have a standard software to log transfer speeds to upload here?

Are you definately connecting to a switch at full duplex? Half duplex is not supported (Ethernet hubs) and would cause slow Ethernet speeds.

That will probably be due to USB 3.0 interference:

It should be line rate (or close to) speeds on Ethernet

Thanks for the info on the USB 3.0 and wifi interference. I will relocated the dock and test.

Im sure it is full duplex. It is a 10/100 switch not a hub. Do you have any other suggestions?

I've not heard of this before and not had other users raise it. This leads me to think there is a subtle hardware problem with the dock that is preventing speeds above 10MBit being auto negotiated.

I recently had windows 8.1 install some updates (it was already win 8.1) and now it appears to be slow all the time. I can type faster than the text appears in the reply box..... to give you an example. The mouse is also laggy on the 2nd monitor.

Is there any known issues with the latest windows updates or is this a coincidence?

Latest support files attached.

Thanks,
