Default Software Display Still Connected After Disconnect DisplayLink Hardware

This is a bit hard to explain.... We have a Dell D1000 USB 3.0 Docking Station and a Dell Latitude 3550 Laptop with Windows 8.1 Pro. When the Dock's USB cable is unplugged from the laptop, the physical displays go blank (as they should do when the dock is disconnected), but Windows keeps the displays Active even when nothing is plugged into the laptop.

The DisplayLink icon in the task bar disappears after the dock is disconnected, but if you right click on the desktop and click Screen Resolution, Windows shows that the external monitors through the dock are still connected. This causes a few problems... one of which is when you try to open a program that was originally on one of those external displays, Windows still opens that program on the disconnected (but still active within Windows) display. You cannot move the program to the laptops display. You can reconnect the dock and the program appears on the display attached to the dock.

Any ideas on what might be causing this issue? As soon as the dock is disconnected, Windows should disconnect the displays and not keep them active. It should move all open programs and windows to the Laptop's display.

Thanks very much for any information you can provide!

Hi Joche,

Can you let me know which video output you are connecting to on the dock and also what video cable type and video connector you are connecting to on the monitor?

In addition the output from this tool would be greatly appreciated:

I attached the zip file from the DisplayLink Log Tool (...removed...).

The monitors are connected via VGA and DisplayPort VGA.

Thanks very much for your help!!
