Default Issues with drivers

Hi all and DisplayLink Team,

with snow leopard I had some issues with the drivers but they were bearable. This includes 1 small thing really, GPU Acceleration, I would have not bought ANY DisplayLink certified device they are compatible wit Windows and Mac but that doesn't mean they WORK Fully.

Now I though I would give you a chance, well then Lion came out and now all hell has broke lose.

now the user switching doesn't work, the screen flickers, the cpu spikes and still NO GPU Acceleration (yeah yeah yeah blame Apple for this one!!!)

Why are the developing cycles so slow?

This is not a rant, this is just a concerned customer, remember if the customers are happy you make more money....

Hi Clarky,

This is my personal answer, might not coincide with DisplayLink's views on the matter.

As you might know as Mac OS developers we can't disclose any information received from Apple through the development program.

But I can ask you a few questions to speed up the development cycle. I'm sure you will be able to quickly answer them:
Can you point me to the Graphics Driver DDK from Apple?
Can you point me to the best path to receive development support about an accelerated driver?
Can you point me to the accurate schedule from Apple about fixing the bugs in the graphics stack in Lion that cause most of the issues you are mentioning?

I've been a Mac user since 1986. I'm using DisplayLink screens all day because they are so convenient: just one thin cable and I can connect to everything. And there are so many different products that everyone can find the right one: minimons, all sort of docks, monitors, adapters, you name it.
We can't influence too much what Apple decides to do but we work every day to improve the experience for our users on the platform, people like you or us.

So your feedback is really important, keep it coming as there is still much we can do. For example the high CPU usage is most likely our fault, we can't reproduce it yet but the next driver will have additional logging to trace it.

Cheers,
Carlo

P.S. On the bright side Apple fixed the screen grab in Lion! That was a major problem for me as 80% of my real screen estate is on DisplayLink screens.

Does this mean you're using lion without any issues? I'm on the late 08 5,1 MBP 15" using the Nvidia 9600M GT 512mb. I don't think Apple officially tells anyone when they're going to release updates. I don't know if Apple has a developer hotline but you can include your concerns into feedback or ask the support community, but that's filled with users, not specifically apple specialists.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes I have a relatively old MPB with and AMD card and I can use my DL screens with Lion without any stability issue.
