Adam everything looks absolutely fine in all the logs. All the devices are associated to different screens etc.
Or we are passing wrong information to the OS or there is a bug in Mac OS.
I'll have to find at least two similar monitors to try to see the same issue and debug it.

Strange....Do you still think that my Macbook is crashing when all 3 are connected at once because of the power issue we talked about? I found this hub which I have ordered and am hoping will resolve the power problem:

Yes I still think the main issue is a power problem. Might be wrong but it's the best fit!
That hub looks quite power-full. Might be a good addition to the test lab here actually, thank you for the hint.

Thumbs up

We are happy to inform that there is a new 1.6 Beta 3 driver available for download from here.

This release has fixed a GUI freeze issue when resuming from sleep on some systems.

Regards

Great, thanks for the pointers. Just so you know Carlo, I got that hub through in the mail. Nice hub but it only outputs 2A, even though the input is 12A. I have tried it with the adaptors and still no joy, freezing and moving the arrangement around all over the place. I am starting to wonder if it is somehow overloading the bus on the Macbook itself?

If I connect each display up one at a time into the hub things seem to be a lot more stable, it's just extremely annoying.

Thanks for the link Pawel, I will try that driver.

Hi Adam, if I were you I'd avoid using an underpowered hub: even a resolution change or a resume from sleep can bring the power consumption over the maximum. But now you have two hubs: connect the second hub and one adapter to the first hub and the remaining adapters to the second hub and you should be fine.

Right, brilliant news. For whatever reason, beta 3 driver has fixed the main problem of my Macbook Pro freezing! I have all 3 adaptors connected to my original hub which is a Belkin Tunesync and they all come up fine. I have restarted and shut down and started up. Each time the hub is connected to my Macbook before it is switched on. I switch it on and after Snow Leopard has started, it thinks for a minute and all displays appear fine.

The only issue that is still present is the arrangement. The interesting thing is that if I arrange the displays correctly and then restart, my Macbook comes back fine. If I shut down though, the next time I switch my Macbook on the left and centre displays are the wrong way round.

To be honest, I am not that bothered about this issue as I am just really happy I can now connect them all to 1 hub.

An interesting thing to note also is that I ran a disk verify (not because I thought it would fix this issue, just because I like to keep my Mac in good shape). It reported that my HD was corrupt and I had to run the repair from the OS disk, which I did. I also repaired permissions on the disk. Don't know if that had anything to do with helping to fix the issue, just thought I would let you know.

Thanks so much for all your help and if you do have any ideas about the arrangement then let me know.
