Default Android APK direct downloads missing

Hi,

http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/android has links to the Google Play Store and to 360.cn.

That 360.cn website seems to offer a direct download for the APK file of DisplayLink Presenter for Android.

However, the website is not in English and there is no indication which version of the APK is being offered, so it is unclear if it is the latest version. Also, it doesn't offer the new DisplayLink Desktop for Android app.

Any chance you could add direct downloads for both:

onto the official DisplayLink website, i.e. http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/android ?

The Windows, macOS and Linux binaries can also directly be downloaded from displaylink.com, so why not do the same for the Android apps? Not everyone uses Google Play Store and not every device has Google apps installed.

Regards

And while being at it, could you please also add links to the respective ReleaseNotes.txt files for the Android APKs, just like you do for the Windows, macOS and Linux binaries?

Checked the version on 360.cn now and it is in fact an old version. It's version 2.0.0 (build 91957) whereas the Google Play Store offers version 2.1.0 (build 93315).

Even more reason to simply offer the latest APKs directly on http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/android .

Hello,

Yes, but there's no satisfactory answer to give you and you asked less a week ago.

The additional work requested doesn't fit the benefits it would bring.
Two requests in 3 years only. I can't justify developing a new release process for that volume to then get support questions because the person didn't know how to use an APK which might not work on that platform... It isn't possible for me to justify prioritising this today.

OSes are not identical, and are used differently. It is not simpler to put an APK on our website.

Manufacturers who don't use the Google Play store can preinstall either the full or a stub application and have access to both.

Kind regards,
Alban

Then why do you offer the link to 360.cn on your website, which in turn offers a direct download to the (old) APK?

And those manufacturers/users would get the APK exactly where from if not being offered outside the Google Play Store?

By the way:

Why would it be "additional work" to simply upload four files (Presenter App + Desktop App + Presenter Release Notes + Desktop Release Notes) and adding four links to your website? That's just a few clicks?

You could always put a disclaimer there saying "Using the APKs directly is not supported by DisplayLink, end-users should install it through the Google Play Store."?

Good afternoon,

Companies co-developing with us do not rely on the public website which can only contain publicly released software.

I am unable to say yes to every single request. Unless it makes business sense, I don't see it happening, I am simply being transparent.
Like every businesses, I have limited resource available and I must prioritise first what benefits most people over special individual requests.

Regards,
Alban

Thanks.

So you are saying the APKs are available from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/corporate ?

And one more: Is the APK uploaded to 360.cn uploaded there directly by DisplayLink? Can one be sure that the file has not been tinkered with? If you control the file on 360.cn: Can you update it to the latest version?
