Default 2nd Startech External Video Card Stops AMD Driver (Win 8.1)

Hi,

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite S855-01L. I have 2 Startech external video cards. The Startech USB32HDE works no problem. (I installed it under 8.0) However, when I try and install Startech USB32HDDVII in 8.1 and the related DisplayLink, driver things go mad. All screens blackout. On reboot, and on examination of Device Manager, I see the message that Windows has stopped the AMD Radeon HD 7670M driver. Only my laptop screen works. The monitor connected to Startech USB32HDE that was working before does not anymore. Uninstalling the Displaylink driver does no good to get back to status quo. I have to do a system restore.

Hi,

Just an FYI, when I ran the diagnostic below with the Startech USB32HDE External Card plugged in your diagnostic said there is no DisplayLink product connected to the computer. This tells me that Startech USB32HDE is just using a generic driver already installed in Windows?

Can USB32HDDVII use a generic windows driver? I would rather not waste any more work cycles trying to fix this problem. Maybe you guys will come out with a fix later.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

The Startech USB32HDE adapter is not a DisplayLink product.

Products using non DisplayLink technologies (such as the USB32HDE) are not compatible with products using DisplayLink (such as the USB32HDDVII).

Thanks,
James
