Default DisplayLink 8.2 M0 Corporate Installer

Hello,

Will there be an MSI package available for the 8.2 M0 corporate installer, that's compatible with Windows 10 Threshold 2? If so, has a release date been set?

Also, are there any best practice guidelines for using the "Preinstall (.INF)" corporate installer in situations where you want to upgrade an existing installation of DisplayLink?

Thank you,

- Andy

Hi Andy,

Yes, the 8.2 M0 MSI packages are already in the Corporate Deployment section of the website. They were made available at the same time as the EXE. Is there an issue with them?
The package for TH2 is DisplayLink_Win7-10TH2.msi
The package in the same folder called DisplayLink_Win10RS1.msi is for Anniversary Update onwards.

I would not recommend using the .INF to upgrade a TH2 install because of the co-installer which needs executing to actually swap the driver.
The advantage of the MSI, also for Redstone, is that it cleans-up the existing installation before adding the new driver. This removes the risk of Windows choosing for you...

But I'll nonetheless ask my colleague who has experience deploying drivers in corporation if he has different recommendations about using the .INF with co-installer on TH2.

Kind regards,
Alban

The page at http://www.displaylink.com/downloads...rate/logged-in only shows the INF Zip file for download for 8.2M0.

The MSI is missing

Hi Alban,

The MSI installer does not appear to be available in the corporate download section. Note the screenshot below:

Thanks,

- Andy

Hello,

I need to see what's wrong with the listing, thank you for flagging this!

Can you try with the direct link, please?

Thank you for the quick reply!

I was able to download the file from the link that you provided. Thanks!

Also, this might be related: one other issue that I am experiencing is that I am only able to log into the corporate download section using one computer with Chrome. The computer that is able to log in is the same computer that I used to previously access the site. I am unable to log in using three other computers using IE11, Chrome, or Chrome incognito. When I attempt to log in using a different computer it just redirects me back to a login page asking for a username and password again and does not display any sort of error message.

This same issue happened once before and DisplayLink support was contacted, who corrected the issue.

OK, I found out what happened and it should be fixed.
The file was corrupted during the upload so it didn't serve it.

I'm sorry to have wasted your time and again, thank you for taking the time to report it.

Thank you for the follow-up, Alban.

To clarify to those who may have downloaded the directly linked MSI installer posted earlier in this thread, the linked file posted in this thread and the file that's now available in the corporate download section are the same (confirmed by performing a binary comparison). Thought I'd mention this just in case anyone else may have already started testing or deploying the MSI file posted in here earlier.

Good afternoon,

I've got more information on the request about using the INF to upgrade.
My colleague confirms you would only add the new driver to the driver store without really any reason for the computer to pick it up. Therefore you would end up with two drivers, still using the old one and, if the user only partially force an update through device manager, you would end up with a potential firmware-host software version mismatch...

TL;DR: Don't use the INF to update.

Kind regards,
Alban
