Default Lenovo Carbon X1 Touch - Display disconnections/flicker

I have a Windows 8 (not 8.1) Lenovo Carbon X1 Touch with the latest video and drivers installed connecting to a Targus ACP70USZ DisplayLink device. I installed the DisplayLink software and attached the device, which worked well for a short while but ultimately started to flicker wildly and disconnect from the secondary monitor. Once the flickering starts the monitors resize, refresh and attempt to connect again. I have connected over DVI, VGA and HDMI (HDMI is my go to config). I have three monitors I have tested this with - all of which have the same issue after a period of about an hour. The experience is, let's just say - unusable. Can anyone assist with a recommendation on how to resolve this? I just updated to the 7.3 DisplayLink software and ran into the same issues. I'm about to return the device, but wanted to check first. Thanks!
