Default 2.4b1 Screensaver on Displaylink screen?

I've just upgraded to the 2.4Beta1 version of the driver hoping that a longstanding issue would be resolved. Whenever my Macbook Pro starts the screensaver I can see 'loading photos' on both screens but only the Mac's screen then shows something. I would expect a connected Displaylink screen to show the screensaver as well and I'm pretty sure that older versions used to do this.

One change is that the 'loading photos' message now disappears after screensaver start, it used to remain on screen with 2.3.

I'm using a single displaylink screen through a USB hub on a Macbook pro running the latest Yosemite version.
