Can't download driver from website

I bought a USB to HDMI adapter and I can't use the mini-cd in my macbook pro. I tried to download the driver from the displaylink website, but after it downloads and says the installation is complete, I restart the computer and the driver is not loaded. There is a folder that says DisplayLink, but it is empty. How do I get the driver? I am running OSX10.6.8 and I tried to download version 1.8. What do I do now?
