Default Resolution settings

I am connecting Dell laptop Inspiron 13 5379 Windows 10, USB output to TV VGA input, using a Coredy MDA1920, which uses the DisplayLink DL-165 chipset and software. My Dell prefers to runs at 1920x1080. My TV appears to run at 1280x1024.
Trying these default settings using Win+P key combination: Display only on laptop works, Display only on TV only works, Extend over both laptop and TV works. However Duplicate/Mirror mode seems not to work. If I reduce the Dell resolution to 1366x768 (or less) the duplicate/mirror mode works.
Is this a resolution conflict issue? Is this behaviour expected, or is this a setting I need to adjust?
Advice and help please.
