NcbService service restart for Ethernet stability
A have the same issue. Using Dell 3100 (I think), after I docking my Thinkpad, the network is unusable.
I figured out, if I restart the NcbService, the network gets working, but my laptop getting unstable, so after a while I have to restart the Windows. After a restart everithing working perfectly, until the first undock.. Without the docking station my laptop works perfectly in any 'network' situation. |

Hello,
I've split the thread as it has nothing to do with the other posts: restarting a Windows service wouldn't have an impact on link negotiation as it's a hardware feature taking place on the dock and the network physical interface only. Would you please be able to qualify what you mean by unusable and unstable? Is your network adapter reporting as "media connected"? Does it have an IP address? Is this a speed issue or you get time out on websites? The last link of my forum signature gives details on how to create the ZIP file of the logs. You can gather them when you have a problem present and upload them here for analysis. Only employees can download them. Regards, Alban.

Unusable means, the computer can see the network device, but unable to communicate through it. Got APIPA. Unplug the cable, I got IP from Wifi. Reconnect the cable, APIPA again. Using an USB3-Ethernet adapter, I got the IP. After the service/computer restart, everything works perfectly with the dock too.
Unstable means unstable. Got lagging and slow responding from anything. Maybe related to the lack of internet connectivity but not sure. It have IP address BUT from APIPA. Speed? Timeout? OMG I've no connection until service restart or with the dock. But fortunately my XAML designer getting works with the latest DL drivers. |

I would recommend you look at the packet transfer in the adapter details.
If you don't get an IP from the DHCP, you may see that there is no packet coming back. The Ethernet driver is dumb and only passes the content from the dock which doesn't either interpret packets. Maybe an antivirus application or something else blocks the packets. I am unable to understand how the absence of Internet connectivity is making your computer unstable and lagging from anything. If that is because that process is hogging the CPU or memory, I can see there are umpteen reports on Microsoft community and other forums about this. Solutions advised range from checking the firewall rules to disabling the superfetch service. XAML designer issue had nothing to do with the driver as exposed in another thread, with Microsoft bug number... Regards, Alban (svchost.exe -k LocalSystemNetworkRestricted)

I uninstalled DisplayLink software and everything works perfectly again.
From my point of view, DisplayLink driver buggy. |
