Duplicating but no extending.

I have the ENMUV-2 from encore electronics, usb to vga which use the display link drivers. My problem is :

I had no problem extending my desktop to the second monitor beforehand, for some reason I changed the resolution on the second monitor but the image didn't get back since it was at a higher resolution than what the monitor could support and so it displayed the message "input not supported". So I changed the setting to duplicate to get the image back and so it did.

Now the problem is when I set it back to extended and lowered the resolution on the second monitor, the image doesn't come back, its still say "input not supported even though the resolution is the same I was using before the whole ordeal.

I tried re-installing both monitor and usb displaylink drivers but to no avail. Also tried switching usb port but nothing helped. Any ideas would be welcomed.
