Unhappy discussion on 7.7 beta1 & 7.6M2

i tried to install both of those packages - without right-click and rund-as-admin it does not work at all.
with admin rights it is complaining about a service it can not install.

a) a useable installer will automatically launch a confirmation dialog for getting the elevated rights.
b) having installed some prior version should not corrupt the installation process. in case of an already running or at least registered service the installer should be able to solve that - even without de-installing anything older first.

ps: the device was not plugged at install time.

Our installer does elevate to admin rights to install. If it didn't do this, we would see lots of complaints so I suspect there might be some problem with your computer and installing the software.

Can you try cleaning the install and then trying again as described here:

i've tried "DisplayLink Installation Cleaner V1" (just the radical removal method - i did not want to spend too much time on the soft options)
after that installation of the new version still choked - probably on the service executeable part.
then i did a reboot and tried again. it seemed to have worked now.

for what ever reason - i looks like the service exe did not want to terminate itself.
