New to Mac air- Explanation of driver needed please

Hey all,

I am new to using a Mac and assumed that it would be as simple to extend onto another monitor as I don't recall anything complicated on microsoft.

I have a Thunderbolt port 2 (Early 2014 mac air) and I have the right extension cord to VGA, but still no connection. Is DisplayLink driver required to use an apple product Thunderbolt to VGA?? Is there a Mac website to get their drivers?

It appears that displaylink is the main provider of drivers which I find odd that no driver is installed. If someone could explain what is necessary for apple and 3rd party extensions to run on osx 15.1 I would appreciate it!
