i7 quad core - clamshell mode not working.

10.6.8 - macbook pro quad core i7 2GHz.

minidisplayport -> dvi -> apple lcd monitor
OWC display adapter -> dvi -> sony lcd monitor

If I put it in clamshell mode, then wake it up the primary screen (apple display) is corrupted and vibrating like crazy. If I boot into clamshell mode it seems ok, then suddenly does the same corrupt/crazy thing about the time the usb display adapter would be loading. This makes clamshell mode unusable. I have been running with my laptop lid cracked open, this works, but is obviously less than ideal since I want to use my henge docks for my two macs and switch between them.

Does the 1.7 beta fix this? Are there any more planned releases of 1.6 that are working to address this issue?
