Here is what ended up working for me:
1. blacklist udl and udlfb 2. install the 1.3 Ubuntu driver (the .run file) 3. change the udev rule that is generated in the /etc/udev.d for DisplayLink that it does not filter DL-1xx devices by removing the following entries from the udev filter: ATTR{bInterfaceClass}=="ff", ATTR{bInterfaceProtocol}=="03", 4. restart the machine. The caveats are that I usually have to open System Settings > Display and reapply the display layout settings each time I plug the external monitor in so that the display will render properly across both screens. Sometimes I have to do it 2-3 times to get windows to maximize properly. And, I cannot have the monitor plugged in when restarting the computer. |

Running Kubuntu 16.04 with Wavlink WL-UG39DH1 Rev. B1 and latest driver on Acer Aspire v3 772g (BIOS v1.15) with Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M. Nvidia-drivers are deinstalled and purched. Attaching the adapter works fine, as long as I don't attach any display to the adapter ...as soon as a display is attached the system freezes.
Second screen is attached to internal DVI-port. Third screen should be attached to the Wavlink-adapter. Following the instructions of @rup didn't work for me, either with attached nor with disconnected second screen of internal DVI-port. Logfile is attached... TIA Stevie |

No joy!
So there was no response to my post for several days, nor that someone would have read my logs, today I returned my Displaylink device.
The following concerns came up during fiddeling around with the adapter: 1) Closed source is ok, but then there should be a functional support process working behind the scenes. Linux is a rather dynamic system regarding kernel updates. So...do I've to fear every week or so that after a necessary update my third display is wired up? This way, I can't rely on this adapter and the whole system. 2) Announcing a bug in the last driver, but not announcing a release date for the bug fix or, at least, a really proof workaround, smells like low manpower regarding Linux support. So, I don't trust in a stable support in the future. Perhaps....making the kernel module open source would solve many problems. Bye |
