Thumbs down I can't install Displaylink Core Software as it says it's already installed, it's not

Hello, can you please help me? I am running Windows XP, have been using Displaylink 6.1 for 2 years. I tried upgrading it to 7.0.4 a couple of days ago and the installation failed. It first uninstalled 6.1 and then it said it could not install 7.0.4 since the software was already installed.

I have used the Displaylink cleaner, I have cleaned the registry and hard drive, and tried all versions from 6.1 to 7.4 with no joy.

I attach the Diagnostics file where it says that the software is installed, when it's not! What can I do please?

Hello billybonk,

It is possible that for some reason 6.1 software has not been uninstalled from your PC properly.

I see you mentioned using DisplayLink cleaner. Just to double check, could you please confirm you have downloaded and run the tool linked in this article:

Thumbs down I've installed 7.0.4 but I do not get a 2nd screen to expand to

Dear Szymon,

thanks for your quick reply. Yes, I uninstalled everything, used the tool you recommend below several times and cleaned the registry as well.

I am making some progress, running the displaylink support tool, I picked on a line that said: Unexpected or missing value (name: 'PackageName', value: '') in key 'HKLM\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\A7CD8224 9044EA3468C8A302F073FFB5\SourceList'

I went to the registry and created that key, with the value DisplayLinkCore.msi

I tried to install the docking station, when I plugged it in, nothing happened (I have autorun activated) but noticed that a drive D: Kensington Dock appeared in Windows Explorer, clicked on Autorun.exe and a window saying "Copying files" appeared and nothing else happened.

I downloaded version 7.0.4 from your website, executed SetupVideo.exe, and it installed ok, at last!

Please see the pictures attached, everything is ok in the device manager, it is listed there but I cannot see a displaylink screen to expand to.

Do you have any idea of what to do next please? I can't believe the software is so bad!
