Angry BSOD with FireMV card installed

  • Dell QuadCore
  • 8 gig RAM
  • Windows 7, 64 bit, build 7100 (RC1)
  • 5 monitors before the Mimo 7"
  • 4 on FireMV PCIe 256
  • 1 on motherboard Intel G4/G5 chipset

Install steps
  • Set a restore point before mucking about with driver installation
  • Mimo 7" touchscreen NOT plugged in. Their Vista drivers NOT tried.
  • Install Beta 5.2b
  • All screens go black a time or two
  • Notice that my portrait screens are now re-oriented landscape
  • Notice that some screens have changed resolution
  • Total of 9 New Hardware detected 'bing bong' sounds.
  • Get warning that this device driver is incompatible with other display card drivers
  • 4 of my monitors are now black/blank
  • Display properties now shows 1 screen only at a maximum of 800x600
  • BSOD as soon as I try to do anything
  • Use System Restore to roll back to pre-installation configuration

Based on other posts in this forum and my own observations I would say that your driver is trying to take over the entire display system and all other display cards. *WHY?*

Why can't you just install as a new display card controlling one monitor and be happy at that? Let the operating system sort out the multiple display cards. If I have a FireMV by ATI and a DualDVI by Intel and a DisplayLinkUSB make it the OS's problem to make them work side by side. So long as DisplayLink follows all the specs for a display card it should look no different than the others I have. Trying to control all the other cards installed on my machine is just arrogant. Leave ATI to work out their own issues. Leave Intel to handle their cards. Just worry about your own back yard.

Photos and screen captures from this install are available on my blog.

My thinking is your target audience is people who use multiple monitors. You need to play well with multiple display cards installed.

Hi,

Have you had any more success recently? If you can find them, the crash minidump file from the blue screen would help me track down your problem. You can find the minidumps at c:\windows\minidump\

Martin.
