# USB-C Monitor Not Working in Ubuntu 24.04
## System Information - **OS**: Ubuntu 24.04 - **Kernel**: 6.11.0-19-generic - **Graphics**: Intel Iris Xe Graphics - **Display**: USB-C connected to Dell and LG monitor - **Laptop**: LG GRAM ## Issue Description I'm having trouble getting my USB-C monitors to work with Ubuntu 24.04. The same monitors work perfectly fine when connected to Windows on the same laptop, but Ubuntu doesn't detect them for video output. The USB-C connection is partially working: - Power delivery works (laptop charges through the monitor) - USB devices connected through the monitor/dock are detected (keyboard, mouse, ethernet) - But no video output is detected by Ubuntu ## What I've Tried ### Driver Installation/Removal - Installed and then removed the DisplayLink driver (displaylink-driver 6.1.0-17) - Verified the DisplayLink service was running: `systemctl status displaylink-driver` ### Kernel Modules - Loaded necessary modules: `typec`, `typec_ucsi`, `typec_displayport` - Verified the `evdi` kernel module is loaded: `lsmod | grep evdi` ### System Monitoring - Monitored USB connections with `udevadm monitor` - Checked system logs with `dmesg` - Examined graphics configuration with `xrandr` ### Hardware Testing - Tried different USB-C ports on the laptop - Verified monitors work correctly in Windows on the same laptop - Tried connecting one monitor at a time ## Relevant Output ### USB Device Detection When connecting the USB-C monitor, the system detects USB devices but not the display: The lsmod | grep evdi output shows: - nothing The xrandr output only shows: bob xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3440 x 3040, maximum 16384 x 16384 eDP-1 connected primary 2560x1600+408+1440 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 366mm x 229mm 2560x1600 60.00*+ 2560x1440 60.00 2048x1536 60.00 1920x1440 60.00 1856x1392 60.00 1792x1344 60.00 2048x1152 60.00 1920x1200 60.00 1920x1080 60.00 1600x1200 60.00 1680x1050 60.00 1400x1050 60.00 1600x900 60.00 1280x1024 60.00 1400x900 60.00 1280x960 60.00 1440x810 60.00 1368x768 60.00 1280x800 60.00 1280x720 60.00 1024x768 60.00 960x720 60.00 928x696 60.00 896x672 60.00 1024x576 60.00 960x600 60.00 960x540 60.00 800x600 60.00 840x525 60.00 864x486 60.00 700x525 60.00 800x450 60.00 640x512 60.00 700x450 60.00 640x480 60.00 720x405 60.00 684x384 60.00 640x360 60.00 512x384 60.00 512x288 60.00 480x270 60.00 400x300 60.00 432x243 60.00 320x240 60.00 360x202 60.00 320x180 60.00 DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1 connected 3440x1440+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 820mm x 346mm 3440x1440 84.96*+ 59.96 49.96 3840x2160 30.00 25.00 24.00 29.97 23.98 2560x1080 60.00 59.94 50.00 1920x1080 60.00 60.00 50.00 59.94 30.00 24.00 29.97 23.98 1280x720 60.00 59.94 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.32 720x576 50.00 720x480 60.00 59.94 640x480 60.00 59.94 Questions How can I get Ubuntu to recognize my USB-C monitors for video output? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent several days trying to solve this and I'm running out of ideas. Last edited by lusbc; 03-09-2025 at 06:18 PM. |
