Default D3100 and Ubuntu 15.10 issues

Hi,

I recently purchased the D3100 following the release of the Linux driver. I'm using it to connect two monitors to an Asus laptop running Gnome Ubuntu 15.10. I'm generally happy with this setup but experiencing two main issues:

1. After the machine was off or the USB was disconnected, display detection is extremely erratic. Sometimes one monitor won't turn on, sometimes monitor positioning will refuse to align correctly in spite of a small script I wrote to call xrandr with re-positioning the monitors. When this happens I need to reconnect the USB multiple times, turn the machine off and back on and repeat till I'm lucky enough.

2. Seems like the Xorg brightness and gamma features don't work with the external monitors, or they cannot be controlled using xrandr. Running "xrandr --output DVI-3-1 --brightness 0.7" has no visible effect, yet the change seems to be written when querying using "xrandr --verbose". This prevents me from using my very-needed 'redshift' utility, which now only affects the built-in laptop monitor.

Are there any log or setting files I can attach to help debug the issue?

Thanks in advance!
