Hi,
the Displaylink V7.0 Beta 2 driver shows massive problems on the W8 RTM version with an Intel HD graphic card (driver: 8.15.10.2702):
This happens when you heavily use graphics (e.g you run DVBViewer to watch TV and IE10 on a graphic intensive site), under "normal" usage this problem will not occure. Unfortunate I cannot provide a dump file as this really turns off the machine like you would press the power off button or remove the power supply). The test HW is an HP 2470p machine, 2 external montiors connected (one on the VGA connector of the docking station, one on the Display link adapter). Last edited by Wolf70; 08-03-2012 at 09:17 AM. This sounds like a hardware problem, e.g. with overheating the machine, or the system drawing more power than the power supply is capable of providing. So it seems it has little to do with software.

I'm seeing this same behavior in a Dell Dimension 9200 with an NVIDIA 7900 GeForce, running Windows 8 RTM Enterprise x64. The behavior is not so much a system crash but an instantaneous reboot, about 2/3 of the way through the installation. No warning or notice, and the system appears to still not have the drivers properly installed after the unexpected reboot.

Could you attach logs please? The observed behaviour was fixed by Microsoft in RTM build of Win8 (build 9200), are you sure the Windows build you use is RTM, not Release Candidate or Release Preview? Thanks.

I confirmed build 9200 is installed (Enterprise x64). Attached is the debug tool output. Not sure how complete it will be since installation did not complete successfully.
Thanks for any help! -Erik |

My W8 will not bootup with the USB adapter plugged in. Sometimes (if I'm lucky) I can plugin the USB adapter after windows has booted and it will work as expected. But 90% of the times I pluging the USB adapter the computer crashes - wihout bluescreen - it just reboots.
I'm using 1 external monitor connected to my MacBook Pro using a DisplayPort adapter, and I'm also using the MacBook Pro's display. When I plugins the USB adapter, all screens turn blank, and the computer restarts. I tried with multiple versions of the DisplayLink Driver - without any luck making it stable. Please help ![]() |
