Default Trouble installing on slackware

I have a Slackware 64 14.2 system and a DisplayLink USB-VGA-165 adapter for USB 2.0. I've followed the instructions posted in http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:har...ink_20_devices (details of my installation are in http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...vga-4175597851) and I can get the external monitor recognized in KDE and can configure it there, but all I end up with is 4 alternating green and purple scratchy bands. That I get anything at all seems to indicate something is working.

I see that another Slackware user has had success, though not using the same device: http://displaylink.org/forum/showthr...ight=slackware

I've been messing with this for weeks. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
