Surface Pro 3 can't power external monitor?
I have a surface pro 3 with a Sabrent 4 Port Mini Portable USB 3.0 Hub. When I plug my AOC E1659FWU monitor into the hub, it just flickers.
However, the monitor cable has a double USB on one end, so if i plug one into the hub, and the second one into the usb port on the surface pro 3 power adapter, then the monitor will work. So my question is, is there any way to divert/unlock more power to the hub so that i don't have to plug both ends in for it to work? |

Hello,
I don't believe you can get away with it to start the AOC monitor. The port is unlikely to deliver enough power to boot the device: it needs to drive the backlight and panel on top of the video decoder inside. However, it is possible that, once started, you could remove the additional cable. Should you wish to do this whilst on the go, you could use a power bank to give it the kick it needs to start. Kind regards, Alban
