Default DisplayLink USB adapter wants to be the main display

Our current setup is an iMac with 2 external displays. One of them is using the built-in mini-display port and the the other is connected via the DisplayLink USB to VGA adaptor. The external displays are set up at 1024x768 (projectors).

When I startup the iMac, it boots up normally until it reaches the log-in screen. At that point the iMac display resizes to more of a 800x600 size. I have to use the keyboard to get to the User profile because when I hover the mouse to User icons the do not line up. Once logged in, the iMac display resizes to the correct size.

Does anyone know a reason why the DisplayLink (or perhaps the mini-display port) is over-riding the default iMac display at startup?

I've checked the Arrangements Preference. I've reset the PRAM. I've booted into Safe Mode and made sure the defaults were good.
