Default usb 2 or usb 3 ?

Hello everybody :-)

With the new Winstar usb 3.0 to hdmi adapter coming, I am almost 100% sure of buying this when it arrives. But.......

I have both usb 2 & 3 on my computer, but the throughput of my usb 3.0 is just 2.5 GB/s, not the full 5 GB/s. I am wondering if anybody has any idea how much of the usb 3 bandwidth a hd monitor would use during different tasks ? Video playback, 3d software etc....

I would think 2.5 GB/s usb 3.0 would suffice, because all hd material is usually compressed. But I don't know how the new displaylink chips work, and even if several hundred MBytes per second should do it for me, I am unsure of the level of compression DisplayLink use in their usb 3 adapters. Have any of you thought about this or have updated info ?

If it would be a waste for me to buy a usb 3.0 adapter, I could just buy a usb 2.0 type now and wouldn't have to wait for the new stuff.....
