This works for me- any chance can rotate the airdisplay?
|
Nice! I was using my apple TV via airplay for a bit but couldn't get over the lag. I hope this is better than a Ethernet connected apple TV airplay option
Great work and that is for keeping to the timeline you promised a week ago |
DisplayLink Option not present 10.13.5 beta
1 Attachment(s)
Followed the instructions with anticipation.
You should mention that WiFi needs to be enabled or the AirPlay option doesn't appear. I see a number of AppleTVs listed (on a college campus), but not the DisplayLink option. So close! Thanks for moving this forward. -- Eric H. -- |
Switched back to 4.3 beta 2
Finally I had to switch back to 4.3 beta 2. Yes, the latest 4.3 beta 3 works as described, however, during a work day I need to connect/disconnect my MacBookPro 2015 from the monitors multiple times (going to the work meetings and back). Each time I disconnect the laptop and want to use built-in display only, my open windows are left invisible and inaccessible on the virtual DisplayLink screen not shown anywhere and not reachable. When connecting back to the monitors, the screen is mapped back to the real monitor wired over DisplayLink adapter.
Shortly saying, the laptop is hardly usable when disconnected from monitors. I have to go to System Preferences and change the settings to disable/enable DisplayLink AirPlay display, etc. Then the same hassle when connecting the monitors back. 4.3 beta 2 is much more predictable for my usage scenario. I change no settings, just plug/unplug cables and keep my clam-shell slightly open. That is much easier that to toggle the bunch of settings additionally to cable work. |

I downloaded the new driver however I am still getting clone mode only.
 |
Keeps defaulting to clone mode
I followed the instructions to enable the airplay display, got it to work extending to the displayLink airplay display. I then unplugged it and now cannot get airplay to reactivate when it is reconnected. I have tried rebooting, unplugging, replugging, modifying settings etc. all to no avail.
This is the article I followed to enable the DisplayLink Airplay functionality: https://support.displaylink.com/know...ticles/1854724 However I only ever see DisplayLinkStop now even when Airplay has not been activated and never just DisplayLink: https://www.studentservices.hull.ac....ayLinkStop.png I have poked around in settings, carried out many reboots and tried changing when the DisplayLink device is connected nothing works. :( |
Beta 3 installs but just keep getting cannot connect to DisplayLink
Using StarTech USB32DVIPRO.
MBA 2014 Airplay keeps searching for apple tv. Anyone else seen this. |

https://support.displaylink.com/know...ticles/1854724 What use to be plug and play is now jump through hoops, not very user friendly. 1080p looks hideous on my 25" screen. Its progress DL but you have a way to go yet to get this fixed. |
Probably worth noting Airplay isn't supported on iMacs before 2011, so my mid 2010 doesn't give the option to Airplay to the monitor.
|
Does not support all WiFi environments
To fix the below I connected to a different wireless network. the corporate WiFi has 802.1x authentication and I think this breaks airplay for display link - Oddly I have no issues Using reflector 3 to airplay to my mac over the same network.

10.13.5 Beta - 4.3 beta WORKS!
The "how to" instructions for 10.13.4 beta 3 DOES work for 10.13.5.
Thanks! At least I'm back to semi-normal. Fascinating work-around. -- Eric H. -- |
This new workaround works, thanks!

I did follow the instructions, Airplay doens't show in the menu bar, so went through "system preferences" connected to the Displaylink. -Shows three monitors available for a few seconds, I can then only access the main one then disconnects itself and I go back to clone. Any suggestions? |
i get clone mode, but my Clamshell'ed macbook with a displayport monitor and displaylink monitor only shows my appleTV as an airplay device. I dont get any security request or accessibility option in S&P either.
thoughts? Hey! apparently Unplugging the displaylink was all it needed. as soon as I did, it popped up the displaylink agent, and then a few click, and boom, extended screen :D Im back baby! only 3 months later! |

Just reporting that 10.13.5 Beta 4 does not restore original functionality. Workaround is effective though.

One downside of an Airplay solution is the likes of Netflix won't play on any monitor due to HDCP protection using Safari, so you make have to switch to Chrome.

Its really unfortunate I have a $200 USB hub and ethernet jack. If Apple did find a loop hole in the way DL works, there are ways to patch it. The easy way is to just terminate the support,

How long is this going to go on for
Getting ridiculous.
So far from what I understand there is still now way or work around to have my 'previous' TWO external monitors running of my macbook air. It used to work so well :( so far the clone method and airport methods will still not enable my two monitors to work. I really really can't be arsed to downgrade my mac update but believe me I will NEVER update my OS again. This is totally ridiculous. |
4.3 beta3 - monitor no longer detected
with great hope, I downloaded 4.3 beta 3 on my 2011 MacBook pro yesterday.
Tried to follow the instruction, but no popup window to ask for airPlay security. I managed to manually add the DisplayLinkUserAgent to the Accessibility, still, no airPlay icon, my hp 22cwa is not detected, invisible in System Preferences > Displays... With 4.1, at least I can do mirroring... there seem to be other 2011 MacBook pro complaints regarding 4.3 beta, wondering if this version has some incompatibility issues? DisplayLink dev, is there anything I can provide to help you debug this scenario? Or anybody has any suggestion on how to fix/workaround this? ---------------- [update] Problem Resolved! Turns out my non-detection problem is related to a faulty USB hub plug. All is well now. Good job DisplayLink! :) |
Anybody knows how to set the 1366x768 default resolution on the MB168B monitor using the latest drivers?
Using the latest 4.3 Beta 3 on macOS 10.13.4. When holding down the Option key to see all resolutions the closest I can get (without scaling) is 1024x768. |
Proper fix ETA - not workaround?
Hi - I've got my MacBook Pro, using 10.13.4 hooked up to a DisplayLink hub so that I can use my Dell 34" curved WQHD (3440x1440) monitor for the detailed Photoshop and graphics work I do as a freelancer. The workaround is max 1080p and looks very blurry on this monitor and I can't work like this.
Am I holding out for something that's never going to happen if Apple has closed off certain parts of the code that allowed DisplayLink to work properly? I'm not sure what my plan B is going to be, but I can't do this for much longer. I don't have the time to downgrade my MacOS and ensure all my years of finessing settings, profiles, scripts, tweaks aren't going to get lost in the process (yes I have proper backups, but that doesn't mean much when downgrading). I'm sure the DisplayLink dev team is on it but is there a remote chance this problem can be fixed? |
I have a MacBook Air with two external monitors attached, one of them through DisplayLink. Except for the fact that my resolution is 1920x1200 so that I have two 60 pixel bars at the top and bottom of the screen the workaround worked fine after installing the beta version.
Unfortunately I have to uninstall/reinstall the driver every morning when I arrive at work. I have found no way of getting the separate display configuration to work again after unplugging the monitors when going home, putting the Mac to sleep and using it at home without the monitors. At work I tried just rebooting the machine, unplugging/plugging in the USB, switching between different configurations, nothing seems to work. The third screen is virtually there and I can configure the positions of my three screens in the Mac screen settings. Also, my windows move to the third screen. Unfortunately the screen is not visible and only shows a clone of either of the other screens. Hopefully this can be fixed soon as reinstalling/rebooting every morning is REALLY annoying, much worse than the wrong resolution. |
Works Great on MacOS Beta 5 - 05/14/18
I can confirm the new method (w/ the new DL Beta —>Useragent.app permission —>AirPlay works great on MacOS Beta 5 released 05/14/18. I'm using it on my mid-2012 MBAir - happy to finally have it back in clamshell mode and not using an Apple TV or SwitchRes App to workaround. This solution provides as close to the same setup/ functionality I had before upgrading.
Thanks to the DL Team for the continued effort! |
I have this working after toggling my firewall off then back on again.
|
anyone having issues with the 2nd display getting stuck in mirrrored mode?
Mine went to sleep and when it woke up both displays are mirrored. I tried to turn off airplay, unplug, ect, but everytime it comes back it shows up as a mirrored monitor, even though the system THINKS there is a second monitor (mouse travels past edge of screen). |

It'd be really nice if they would just fix the issue already, the workaround makes a 2nd monitor usable, but for crying out loud, fix the issue!!!

Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
Installing macOS 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS update when using DisplayLink driver v4.1. Extended displays continue to work as expected in macOS 10.13.3, and we can only recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier if you require this feature and have not already updated. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected. We have now released DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 4 providing an interim solution with one extended USB display (720p or 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4, using Apple AirPlay®. All additional DisplayLink screens will be cloning the primary display. This updated beta removes two main restrictions from last week's v4.3 beta 3: Wi-Fi no longer needs to be enabled, and the driver is allowed access through the system firewall. When starting the machine, AirPlay requires you to re-plug the device after login. Please see the updated FAQ for details on how to enable the DisplayLink AirPlay display for extend or mirror mode. Our team has made some solid progress towards finding a solution which would restore full extended display support for multiple DisplayLink displays in a future release of macOS, but we are unable to provide a time-frame or a date for release of this solution at this time. We will provide an update on this thread as soon as we are able. Thank you for your continued patience and we appreciate your feedback and support. Kind regards, Alban |
Still no picture
I done everything you said. I got it running and there still no picture. I can’t even duplicate the screen. All I see is a black screen. If there no solution to this, I might end up returning it back to amazon.

For individual cases, I would recommend a dedicated support ticket rather than this busy generic thread. If you send an email to technical_enquiries@displaylink.com, stating what you are trying to achieve (how many displays, in which configuration), and with what machine (Apple product name and model year) and product (the one you got from Amazon), then we can guide you how to achieve this, or tell you straight away if it's not possible today. Kind regards, Alban |
Well done! Has restored my 3rd display on Mac Mini (Late 2014)

Screen working again!
With the installation of the newest driver, my second monitor came back to live. Thanks! :):):):):)
