Dear DisplayLink Team,
can you please give us a vague prognosis,
Thanks! |
Separate Display now running at 1680x1050 on 2012 MBA Beta 4
Running on 10.13.5 public beta - all working now. Thank you DisplayLink!

The only downside for me with the current fix is the limitation to 1080p which leave some black bars on my screen. But I guess this is a limitation of using AirPlay and cannot be overcome by DisplayLink other than with their announced "real" fix in the future, or am I wong? |
When are we going to see better resolution?
We run quad HD Dell Ultrasharp screens, 1080p looks awful on them, the is such a waste of expensive equipment (DL dock and screens) not being utilised fully. |

Do you get options for higher resolutions than 1920x1080??? |

Safari Black Images on DisplayLink Monitor
I now have an extended monitor working, using AirPlay. Thank you. But there seems to be another gift from High Sierra: Blackened images on Safari on the Display Link monitor.
Chrome works perfectly. When I drag the Safari blackened image to another monitor, the image appears. This problem is probably more High Sierra than any hardware issue. Someone suggested changing the Display profile in System Prefs from HD 709-A to sRGB IEC61966-2.1. That's when I discovered that the DisplayLink monitor was locked on HD 709-A. This is a relatively small price to pay to have my extended monitor back, but does anybody have any thoughts about my problem, or have it themselves? |
Lottery
So every-time i plug my Dell Docking station in, running this version of the beta, and the Previous version of the beta, its a Lottery Chance that it will actually work.
there is no consistency to the setting up of the extended screen, after 10min i tend to just plug in a normal screen extender cable, but then means i loose all the Docking station Functionality. |
Update: May 22nd
Dear DisplayLink macOS users, Installing macOS 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS update when using DisplayLink driver v4.1. Extended displays continue to work as expected in macOS 10.13.3, and we can only recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier if you require this feature and have not already updated. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected. We released DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 4 providing an interim solution with one extended USB display (720p or 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4, using Apple AirPlay®. All additional DisplayLink screens will be cloning the primary display. Next week, we will be releasing DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta5. It will fix the update mechanism, so you don't have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one. You will no longer need to replug your USB device after rebooting. We also have additional improvements we are trying to fit in that release. Please see the FAQ for details on how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode. Our team has made some solid progress towards finding a solution which would restore full extended display support for multiple DisplayLink displays in a future release of macOS, but we are unable to provide a time-frame or a date for release of this solution at this time. We will keep updating this thread as soon as we are able to. Thank you for your continued patience and we appreciate your feedback and support. Kind regards, Alban |
When will support for 1200x1600 portrait mode be added? I still can't use my portrait-landscape-portrait setup (which has cost me an arm and a leg).
|
Please make the permanent fix NOT-reliant on AirPlay. I don't have AirPlay.

And more resolutions. |
I appreciate the progress, but at this point I'm still having all types of issues.
I'm currently running a 2016 13" MacBook Pro on 10.13.5 Beta 5 with the latest DisplayLink Beta Driver 4.3 Beta 4. I can get things up and running, but it seems that something crashes every few minutes as the displays go blank and then come back after 5 to 10 seconds. I'm running two Dell P2016 monitors connected to a Startech DK30CH2DPPD via DisplayPort. Looking forward to finally getting this resolved. |
Microsoft strategy
Last year, I was at a tech conference where Satya Nadella said "Over the coming years, we are deploying an aggressive strategy to increase our Windows user base significantly".
Now it makes sense. Seriously though, my entire set up doesn't work anymore and cost me a ton of money, all to be undone by a MacOS update not playing nicely with DL software. This is a massive liability since I rely on it professionally. With this knowledge, I need to investigate what I can do as to not rely on DL software going forward. Even if DL fixes it for the current release version of MacOS, we could be having the same issue & conversation after the next MacOS update. My confidence in DL software for MacOS has - unfortunately - all but disappeared. *dusting off Windows for Dummies* |
What is the ETA for a final release.
Betas are all well and good and we can see progress but we will not distribute a beta to our users. What we need to see is more resolutions and easier setup. |
Come on people please be patient! They will release a new version sometime within our lifetimes!
And let us try to be fair, it's not like they were aware of this issue since Mac OS X 10.13.4 Beta 1 was released on 1/24/2018. :D:D |
4.3b4 AirPlay workaround fails with proper Security&Privacy set
Read about the Airplay workaround but this fails too. I have DisplayLinkUserAgent approved as an app to control my computer in the Security and Privacy settings. I have a freshly installed macbook pro (2014) with no previous display link drivers. I installed new driver, allowed the Display Link software in privacy settings, set the DisplayLinkUserAgent to be allowed - and nothing shows up in airplay. Mirroring option is checked in Display Settings.
Now what? |

Thought I would come back and see how this issue has been resolved. I've had to move to a windows machine at work due to this problem so I no longer have it. No more MAC machines in the enterprise too much a headache to support them being locked down to apple specific solutions with no consideration to the market.
But I see that the solution is limited resolution and extending to only a single display. While I don't like windows lack of stability it does still function and enable display link with greater capability than the apple crippled support thats provided airplay. I don;t see this going any where for MACs its obvious with this tack that Apple will not restore what was in use by the industry. Guess that all but kills displaylink on macs with such limited capabilities. Sad state of affairs but then again it is apple. Go buy a much higher priced solution is the only option or move to a lower priced windows machine that support 4k displays and many extended options. |
I'm thinking of selling my Kensington DisplayLink Dock and move to a Sonnet
Breakaway Puck. While a Thunderbolt solution is more inconvenient with all the steps connecting and disconnecting at least I can use all my monitors in the way DisplayLink is supposed to work. |
Well - the temp solution that was working has now failed me. It's back to clone mode and I cannot get to work properly. I have uninstalled and re-installed beta4. Nothing. I have set the security settings and unplugged the ubs device. No luck. I will try tomorrow.

You will need to disable the firewall, then unplug the adapter, then plug the adapter back in before you can use the extended display option again. Once you extend the screen to the extra display you can reactivate the Firewall if you want to. You'll still have to do this every day until they get the software updated. Hope this helps somebody. |
Yep - that was it - thanks.
That's the main reason I posted. I was hoping someone would see the solution. |
Any news regarding today's macOS 10.13.5 release?

Any update for 10.13.4? thanks

Update: May 31st
Dear DisplayLink macOS users, Installing macOS 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS update when using DisplayLink driver v4.1. Extended displays continue to work as expected in macOS 10.13.3, and we can only recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier if you require this feature and have not already updated. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected. Today, we released DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 5 providing an interim solution with one extended USB display (720p or 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4, using Apple AirPlay®. All additional DisplayLink screens will be cloning the primary display. DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta5 fixes the update mechanism, so you don't have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one. You no longer need to re-plug your USB device after rebooting, and, with the accessibility permission, AirPlay display will also automatically be reactivated when docking and after rebooting. I preferred delaying this message to postponing the delivery of these usability improvements you asked for. Please see the simplified FAQ for details on how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode. Our team has made some solid progress towards finding a solution which would restore full extended display support for multiple DisplayLink displays in a future release of macOS, but we are unable to provide a time-frame or a date for release of this solution at this time. We will provide an update on this thread as soon as we are able to do so. Thank you for your continued patience. We appreciate your feedback and support. Kind regards, Alban |
The upgrade mechanism still seems to be broken. I had to completely uninstall to get beta 5 working. Otherwise this seems to be solid progress. Looking forward to the full fix.

Just reporting that the problem persists with 10.13.6 Beta 1.
|
so basically all we got today is just a variation to how the driver installs........
what about the users who dont have airplay?? i have an apple thunderbolt display hooked up to my 2009 desktop, and an acer monitor that has been blank for nearly 2 months now. any work around for this?? |

It does sound like the Airplay "fix" is temporary and we will get a better solution in the future. |
4.3 beta 5
Upgraded to 4.3 beta 5 this morning. Seems to have fixed the network issue now. But DisplayLink still doesn't show up in AirPlay options.

Blank Screen
I'm running 10.13.4 on my MacBook Air. The 4.3 beta 3 worked when it first came out for me. But I installed the beta 4 last week and all I get on my usb monitor is the same blank screen that I got when I upgraded to 10.13.4. I tried uninstalling beta 4 and reinstalling beta 3 and it still doesn't work. I tried installing beta 5 that just came out and no change. I followed the instructions that were posted. The DisplayLink doesn't even show up in my airplay. I've granted permissions for DisplayLinkUserAgent in Accessibility.
I think the first way to solve my problem is understanding why DisplayLink isn't showing up in my Airplay. Can anyone help?:):):) |
