USB Display Adapter not recognised

My WavLink USB 3.0 HDMI display adapter is not recognised when I plug it in. Originally I was using it on a W7 laptop in a USB 2.0 slot, and I had to wait ten mins before it would be recognised. I even bought a USB 3.0 adapter, no difference. Eventually that stopped working. So now I'm trying it on a Vista laptop.
I have latest DisplayLink s/w installed, and service is running.
However in Device Manager I don't have any USB Display Adapter listed, not even the heading.
I don't get a "bing" as you usually do when a device is plugged in. I am using a USB port on the laptop, not externally.
The adapter does have a power light, which goes on. Also the monitor flickers between analog/hdmi, so some sort of signal is getting through.
I've even tried a second DisplayLink adapter, identical model.
Sounds like a hardware failure?

Should I return the adapters? It's odd that they were working, then stopped. I've also tested in a Windows XP machine.
The unit is labelled as a WavLink, but was purchased as Winstars WS-UG70H5

Hi

From looking at this page:
http://www.win-star.com/eshop/article.php?id=41

The WS-UG70H5 is not a DisplayLink powered product.

Thanks,
James

Yes, that is what it looks like. But I think my device is just mis-labelled by i-Tech. There's nothing on the device itself that indicates it is WinStars. I tried the drivers anyway - no luck.

Hi,

In device manager do you have any unknown devices listed?

if so can you can you provide details of what they are?

Thanks,
James

Hi James

I have the same problem as DuncanGardner.
My laptop is running Windows8, and I checked the first two steps (installation and service running). I installed the proper driver (for Win8).
But in the Device Manager I find no "USB Display Adapter".
Instead of this, I have multiple additional normal USB's:
"Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub"
"Generic USB Hub"
"USB Composite Device" x2

So I suppose it has been recognized, but not for what it is?
Can you help me on this?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi,

What device do you have?

Thanks,
James

This is the docking station I have. I use it with an Asus Zenbook UX51VZ and want to use a DELL U2412M Monitor.
