DisplayLink Beyond HD ACA039US crashing Excel 2013
I purchased this about a week ago and it seemed pretty stable - but I ran into one problem which is pretty annoying. Whenever I launch Excel 2013, I get an error: "Excel.Exe - Bad Image - c:\windows\system32\dlumd11.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error..."
I was on with tech support for awhile - they had me verify I had the latest graphics drivers and the latest display link software which I do. I also found this article on Microsoft's support site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2813143 - but this didn't yield any results. For me so far, it's only Excel that crashes. If I start it in safe mode, it's fine. Or if I simply un-install the display link software - that works to, but then I can't use my two external monitors. Very frustrating! If anyone has an suggestions, please let me know. I would like to get this resolved. BTW, I'm running windows 8 Pro on a Sony Vaio 13" Pro. Great laptop -everything works perfectly except this display Link Adapter and the only issue was with Excel -and I can't stop using Excel. |
Hi,
Please run through this guide: http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=896 If the issue persists please attach the debug logs: http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269 Thanks, James |
follow-up
I read through all of the instructions, although none seems to be specific to windows 8.
I did notice that in device manager, I have two items listed under USB display adapters: DisplayLink Display Adapter (4306) and Targus USB3.0 Dual Video Adapter. Is this normal? I have opened a support ticket and they did have me try a variety of things from un-installing, re-installing, uploading logs, etc....to no avail. The last thing they suggested was that I had the incorrect video driver installed for my Vaio. I triple checked - it is the latest video driver from Sony. So I am still stuck. Any additional suggestions would be appreciated. |
Hi,
The device manager listing is expected. Please attach the logs from this tool: http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269 Thanks, James |

Any news? I've been actively working on this problem for a few weeks now but am not closer to any resolution. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. I uploaded the log files as well.

Hi,
We've seen a similar issue internally - this is currently being investigated. I'll update you when I know more. Thanks, James |
Hi,
Can you let me know if you get this issue after a reboot? Thanks, James |
reply
yes, It doesn't matter how many times I reboot - I always get the error. It's somewhat intermittent but happens more often than not - then I have to click on about 10 screens to get rid of it and eventually Excel fires up.
