Wavlink USB to HDMI Adapter not wokring on Win XP

Hi,
I have an old laptop running Win XP, and I hope to connect it to an external monitor. So I bought a USB-A to HDMI adapter and installed the legacy driver suitable for Win XP. Once I connect my laptop to an external monitor via the adapter and a HDMI cable, they fail to detect each other. After numerous attempts, I still could not get them working. So I would love to know the issue causing this failure. Thank you.

Specification:
Laptop : Lenovo R61i
System : Windows XP Pro Ver 2002 SP3
Port : USB 2.0
USB-HDMI Adapter : Wavlink WL-UG3501H Rev. A
Monitor : Dell LCD Monitor U2414Hb
Driver : DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for Windows Ver 6.2.37544.0

Both the adapter and the hdmi cable work perfectly fine when I set up my other laptop running Win 7, via a USB port 2.0, connected to the Dell monitor.

I suspect (but I cannot be sure) that the issue is the Wavlink adapter.

To expand further, the Wavlink adapter appears to be based on a USB 3.0 DisplayLink chipset. If pressed to guess, the legacy version of the DisplayLink driver for Windows XP does not know how to communicate with this chipset and that in turn is causing the problem.

You may want to consider trying to find an older adapter based on a USB 2.0 DisplayLink chipset to see if that changes the result. An example of such an adapter would be this one --> https://plugable.com/products/uga-165

Understood, thank you for the reply.

Based on my laptop Lenovo R61i's specification, if the USB 2.0 to HDMI adapter does not work, does it mean I should try a USB 1.0 to HDMI adapter?

Thank you once again.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as a 'USB 1.0 to HDMI adapter'.
