I tried a clean install with 7.9M3 (which also didn't work), but cannot recall whether I tried 7.9M4. I'll give it another go an let you know the result.

By the way, Microsoft Update installed...

I had exactly the same problem with 7.9M3, which was not resolved. I tried installingo 7.9M4 over 7.9M2, but I still get the same error. The Start Menu does not appear and the Application Event log...

I found time to install 7.9M3 over 7.9M2. The problem persists, so I've emailed the diagnostic info to the technical team.n I've reinstalled 7.9M2 (which works for me).
