HOWEVER, my laptop is set to "discrete" (ATI) graphics mode in the BIOS display settings. When set to "integrated", nothing appears on the laptop's LCD at all, so I haven't tried testing "integrated" mode with the IOGEAR card.
I wish the solution were that easy. Thanks for trying, though.

I ended up having to reformat the problem machine because of other issues (still has Windows XP Pro on it,) and now the IOGEAR external card works just fine using the DisplayLink drivers that were pulled by Windows Update.

I wish I knew why it took a REFORMAT to fix the problem. Oh well. I suppose all's well that ends well?
