I have re-imaged the PC three times. Now I am starting re-image #4. I have also used two different PC models from two different manufacturers. This product evaluation is not going well. :-( I have been working with Targus support but they are at a loss as well. It works under Win7 so it would not seem to be hardware. |

Ok I'm ready to shoot it.
I installed DisplayLink-5.6.31870.exe. I connected the dock and then I saw the devices detected this time. At this point I got an error that my device requires a newer version. I installed the latest version from the Targus website (which is newer than the driver posted here). Now the icon is gone from the tray as well as most of the associated devices in Device Manager. I uninstalled Displaylink and rebooted. I then re-installed DisplayLink-5.6.31870.exe. Now I am back to square one. No tray icon and most of the devices are not listed. Could this possibly be any more frustrating? No, this is not a feature request. :-) ![]()

Yes it can! I rebuilt the machine and performed the exact same steps and now it is not detected using version 5.6 either.
In my travels I came across a real manual for v5.6. http://displaylinkmanuals.s3.amazona...rManual5.6.pdf |

Hi MarkM
Just me try and make things less frustrating. It sounds like the DisplayLink chip in this dock (DL-3900), which provides the audio Ethernet and video on this dock, is not being recognised on the USB bus. V5.6 will not work with this dock, as v6.0 was the first release to support our DL-3xxx family. So let'ss try getting it working with v6.3 release. As it sounds like the chip is not being detected on the bus, but you don't say if you are connecting to USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports. My first though is "Are you connecting it to a USB 3.0 port?". We know that early versions of host controller drivers have bugs that prevent it correctly recognising our USB 3.0 devices, which they have fixed in later releases. Check out this article on our website to find the latest USB 3.0 drivers If this is not the case, please can you post the system logs, with the dock connected, and 6.3 installed to see if that gives any further clues to the issue? http://kb.displaylink.com/269 Thanks Wim |

Thanks Wim. It works fine under Win7 whether I utilize USB 2.0 or 3.0. The issue I am currently dealing with is an HP 2560p under XP on USB 2.0. Although a Samsung Series 9 has the same issue.
I will probably have to wait till Monday to gather the logs. Thanks for the assist. Last edited by MarkM; 06-22-2012 at 12:10 PM. |

Hi Wim,
I just wish this would behave the same way twice in a row. I re-imaged the laptop and installed v6.3M0. All the devices were detected but I could not get the external monitor to work on HDMI or DVI. I rebooted the PC. Everything except the USB hub disappeared. ![]() This is an HP 2560p utilizing USB 2.0. Last edited by MarkM; 06-25-2012 at 01:50 PM. |

Hi Wim,
I just re-imaged the machine again and performed the exact same steps. This time only the USB hub was detected. This is sooo weird. |
