Figured I'd post this new info, just in case it gives you any ideas for things I can do to help fix this.
In a few days, I'll backup, then try the DisplayLink cleanup utility, and NVIDIA cleanup. Then reinstall NVIDIA, then Lenovo branded DisplayLink software, and see how it goes. |

Turns out that I can only turn off my primary 2560x1444 DisplayPort connected display (straight from the laptop's DisplayPort) by it's power switch, not by turning off the power strip it's plugged in to. Why? Well, I get BSODs if I use the power strip, very strange, seems to have to do with NVIDIA drivers (problem happened on one beta driver earlier this summer too). Still in NVIDIA Discreet Video mode in my W520's BIOS (NVIDIA Optimus mode still problematic under Windows 8).
But those issues have nothing to do with the DisplayLink stuff really, and at least I've found stability as long as I don't use the power strip for now. Still waiting for a Windows 8 DisplayLink driver set with iPad-as-monitor support, looking forward to that experience. |

Also found that the Lenovo provided driver here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guid...DocID=UM014961 works well finally with the Lenovo USB 3.0 dock under Windows 8, but I believe it still doesn't support iPad as an additional monitor. |

Looks like they've suspended all iPad support: http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads_ipad.php |

Everything working nicely now:
http://tinkertry.com/enjoy-windows-8...ernal-monitors using Lenovo's variant of the DisplayLink Windows 8 drivers (latest DisplayLink drivers work too) Woo hoo, victory at last! Strange that putting the NVIDIA 1000M into Discreet Mode, coupled with turning off VT-d in the BIOS, was most of the secret sauce. Guess I'll just have to let go of the iPad 4th screen option I had shown at the bottom of this article: http://tinkertry.com/mydesk So glad such DisplayLink products exist at all, finally, 2560x1440 bliss, with 3 external monitors, on a laptop. Awesome! |
