Default Win 8 Display link ... 'power saving mode'

With the USB3.0 dock connected via USB to X1 Carbon and intermittent problem occurs where it appears that the USB dock 'turns off'. This problem repeats itself at an irregular interval varying from 1 min apart to 2-3 hours apart. The issue is sometimes proceeded with a windows error message 'The last USB device connected is not recognized...' or 'display setting are less than recommended for your device...'. Shortly after one of these error messages occurs, the attached monitors (2) as well as the laptop monitor go blank, return briefly then go blank 1-3 more times. The monitors will remain black but a small message will be display 'power saving mode'. The laptop monitor will return to normal. Several seconds later, the monitors will return to functionality.
Display driver is 7.4...graphics 7.4. I did update my Intel graphics driver as a worked through the trouble shoot flow provided. This update made no difference (pre-/post- update behavior was the same).
I do not know how to initiate the error (or I would stop doing it), it seems to occur randomly. I have tried several times to attach the log file from the trouble shooting tool. but the attachment function above returns a message saying I am not logged in (which clearly I am). Will try to post in another message

Hi,

It's worth checking if you have the latest hub firmware programmed for this dock.

Open up device manager, open up Universal Serial Bus controllers and right click on the entry called “Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub”.
Select “Properties”, select “Details”, change “Property” to “Hardware Ids” and the REV_xxxx value will tell you what version of firmware is programmed on the hub. For this dock the latest version is REV_0982.

If you don't see this listed you can get the firmware from here:

Thanks,
James
