Unhappy installing Displaylink 7.9M2 software bricks clean Surface Pro3 running Windows 10

I've been using your software with a Dell USB Docking station model D3100 with my Latitude5530 Laptop with no issues.

However, I just picked up a new Surface Pro3 i5/256GB model that came pre-installed with Windows 10 (I did not upgrade from Windows 8.1)

When I install your DisplayLink software version 7.9M2 (the latest) and restart the unit, it won't boot at all. I get a blue screen with "Your PC could not be started". I've tried various recovery options to no avail. The only recourse is to factory reset the unit.

I've now had to go through this reset process 4 times as each time I try something a little different. The simplest repro case is:

1. Take a factory Fresh Surface PRO3 (i5/256BG in my case) with Windows 10
2. Do Not connect the Displaylink hardware.
3. Install your software. NOTE: No Displaylink hardware required - SKIP the first connection step of the Wizard)
4. Let the software complete installation
5. Reboot
6. Windows will not start.

This is quite concerning! Fortuntely your software was one of the first things I tried to install, so not too much was lost!

Any assistance is appreciated.

EDIT: I should add that because the OS won't even boot, I can't find a way to execute any of the debugging procedures mentioned on your site.

Hi,

Can you try and boot into safe mode to get the memory dump from the BSOD?

To enable your Surface Pro 3 to boot into safe mode is pretty convoluted but my understanding is you need to power on and then whilst it's booting up power off the tablet ~6 times at which point you should get the the recovery screen.

At this point please follow the steps in this guide:

Once you're in safe mode please copy the memory dump file (named MEMORY.DMP) onto a USB stick or similar and upload to a file share site.

Thanks,
James
