This is by design of Windows, yes, unfortunately. You can see that if you connect the same peripheral (like a USB drive, mouse...) to different USB ports of the same machine, it will create a new installation. The way Windows works is that it kind of does a driver instance per connection path (port), per device serial number. Windows doesn't look at the model for the full machine. Kind regards, Alban
