Default MacOS - dock182euz Audio over HDMI Port(s)

Hi,

Targus dock182euz
MacBook Air M3, Sequoia 15.3.1
USB-C connection MacBook to dock
2 Samsung 1080p monitors on dock HDMI ports

Is audio over HDMI supported?

In MacOS SystemSettings/Sound there is an option for <Targus Audio> <USB> but this seems to be output to only the analogue sound port on the dock or the USB C front panel port on the dock. (Obviously the USB C output needs a USB C -> 3.5mm analogue cable with built in DAC). Sadly both these options seem to pick up interference, there is a 50hz low level buzz present (I'm in the UK).

I used the same displays on a Microsoft Surface with the Microsoft Dock, same cables. Audio was crystal clear

Am I missing something?

Thx in advance

Hi Andrew657,

To answer your question: yes, audio over HDMI is supported.

As for the analogue audio issue you write about we will look into it.

Hi Andrew657,
Yes, I can confirm that audio over HDMI, DP and analog is supported on the Targus DOCK182.

Following your directions, we did tests using a MacBook Air with M3 and macOS 15.3.1 using Targus DOCK182 and DisplayLink Manager 1.12.0 installed.
On our side, everything seems to work fine.

If the problem still occurs and you can confirm that you have eliminated the other causes (mainly those related to electrical interference), please contact us directly. After reviewing your logs, we will try to solve your problem.
