I have just acquired a Win 7 PC and I am having problems installing/configuring the Displaylink drivers/software. I downloaded the latest drivers from your website but this also failed.
Initially I am able to configure both monitors. However, once the aux monitor is disconnected and my PC re-booted the problems really start. * The screen resolution was very low with a message that the graphics driver could not be found * I kept getting a message that explorer had stopped * My ‘Asus kernel mode driver’ was showing a conflict (exclamation mark) * My ‘NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560’ driver was showing a conflict (exclamation mark) * I couldn’t right-click to get display properties dialog – explorer stopped when I tried * Pop-up(s) saying "Desktop Windows Manager stopped working and was closed The only solution I found was to uninstall the DisplayLink software which restored all the above but obviously left me with no dual monitor! Any help/guidance would be welcome. |

Can you post the logs as described here so we can see if we can reproduce your setup?

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I ran the debug tool with the DisplayLink adapter connected and the log files are attached. I got a message saying "Desktop Windows Manager stopped working and was closed but the display resolution will be OK until I reboot. It then seems to imply that the DisplayLink drivers are trying to run my Nvidia graphic card! |

I see you are running v6.1. Just to make sure this is still a problem in our latest code, could you try v6.2?
Also, when you ran the logging tool , the desktop was in basic mode. This could be because DWM crashed, putting you into basic mode, but this could also have had the knock on effect of exposing problems we have rendering in basic mode and will be fixed next month. If you manually restart the Desktop Window Manager service and restore Aero, does the machine then continue to function correctly until the next reboot? Thanks Wim |

Thanks for all your help.
I have installed 6.2 as requested and attached a revised copy of the log files. I wasn't too sure what you meant by basic mode but I assumed, from your other comments, that this was because I had disabled Aero. The Desktop Window Manager service only failed once this time and, after I restored Aero and ran DWM.exe all appeared Ok on that issue. However, the major problem when using 6.2 on the new monitor was screen refresh. A black area, parts of the underlying window or the desktop showed in the active window. Sometimes a restored window would contain many artefacts. The main screen continued to display all these windows normally. I have not had a problem with other functions, the PC remaining usable before rebooting any previous time I've installed DisplayLink. The machine seems to run normally until I reboot. The same symptoms, low res etc, occurred when I rebooted after installing Version 6.2. One other point I forgot to mention before - once the problem occurs, it is difficult to restore the PC as the Nvidia driver installation then fails to recognise that a GTX card present. I have taken to using Windows System Restore to create a manual restore point before commencing to install the DisplayLink drivers, but even this caused problems on one occasion - I eventually managed to restore in safe mode! |

I was pleased when I originally started this thread, posted my query and received a timely and positive reply. However, things seem to have gone very quiet now and I was wondering what the current status is and whether I can expect any further help.

Just found this thread again. The problem in here look to be caused by rendering when using Basic themes. If you update to v6.3, it should solve this issue.

Hi
I've just got around to trying v6.3 and it still fails with the same problems previously documented. Additionally, my system did not find the second screen/adaptor. Len |

I think you have a known issue with NVIDIA that was a new problem in v6.3. This will be fixed in the next maintenance release due out next week.
