Default Kaput!

Today, when plugging another device into the same power strip being used for my displaylink-connected monitor, the said monitor inexplicably went blank. I did everything I could to get it to resume but it won't. I uninstalled the software, uninstalled the drivers, unplugged, replugged, switched on and off, reinstated a three-day old back up (when the thing was working), all the usual stuff. Nothing will make it work again. The monitor itself is okay because I connected it to one of the other video ports. I also then connected the displaylink to another known-to-be-working monitor and that monitor would not work. The monitor also shows up in my Display panel from Contol Panel. So the fault must be in the hardware. Any thoughts? If not, would I be entitled to a warranty replacement I wonder? Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, using a USB 3 Displaylink adapter in a USB 2 port (successfully for the past few months).
