Default Dell XPS13 9350 Iris Graphics 540 - cannot adjust colour / gamma

Hi

I'm hoping someone here will be able to help.

I'm using the DA100 Display Link adaptor plugged into my XPS (Windows 10) via USB. It's connected to an external monitor via HDMI (also tried VGA), but no matter what I try (updating Intel HD graphics and Display Link drivers), I just cannot get to adjust the external monitor's colour / gamma.

Under Intel's control panel, it only shows Built-in display under the mutiple monitor drop down menu. Under Windows 8, although on a different setup (laptop and external montior via DP) it also shows the external monitor and the laoptop's 'built-in display'.

Is this a known issue under Win 10 and is there a fix available? A registry hack or just an issue with Display Link's adaptor?

Thanks.

Hello,

This feature is not currently implemented.
It is on the roadmap for the future but today colour correction is not possible.

Kind regards,
Alban

Thanks Alban

So it is a problem with the adaptor itself rather than an inherent problem / compatibility issue with Windows 10 or indeed a driver issue?

Hello,
This is not a problem. The product works as designed.
We intend to bring this new feature in the future and the Dell DA100 (and other using the same chip(set) will be the first hardware to support it.
Kind regards,
Alban

Thanks again Alban

Yes, the product works in that it outputs a display to an external monitor, but for some reason, it doesn't play ball with (in this case) the Intel Graphics software. Therefore, the ability to adjust colours / gamma is lost.

Is there a workaround other than adjust the colour / gamma directly on the monitor?

Thanks.

This happens because of where the colour correction is done. From 8.0, we introduced support for DDC/CI mainly for contrast/luminosity.

In order for us to do colour correction and applications like f.lux, we have to do that calculation/correction in the device and this is brand new code to be written. Today, we get the data from the graphics card and don't modify it.
Because the Intel software is not made to recognise indirectly connected displays, it won't show DisplayLink displays.

Could you try an application like ScreenBright (on a DisplayLink driver 8.0+) to see what it offers for your monitor?
It should allow you to do what you do on the monitor directly...

Kind regards,
Alban

I've had a look at ScreenBright.

It looks like a useful tool, but unfortunately it does not have gamma control.

I can't be the only person who has this setup. Is there an ETA on a fix?

Thanks.

There is no fix available, the feature is not implemented.
It is on the roadmap for the future but today colour correction is not possible and no date can be promised.
