Default Email Support asking for information

Hello!

I am somewhat of a technology novice and am trying to set up a multi monitor set up with my mac and having some trouble getting it to recognise more than two screens.

I have contacted support and they have asked me to download a program that downloads display information from my computer into a zip file and then they are asking me to email that zip file to them.

Is this normal and legit because it feels a little dicey!

Any help would be most appreciated!
